KCACR Maidstone District
120 Club
Why a 120 Club?
The Maidstone District 120 Club was formed in 1998 holding
its first draw in March 1999. It was founded as part of
the Districts effort of raising £1000 before 2000 for the Kent County
Association Bell Restoration Fund.
It was some four years earlier that the idea of a 100 type
of club was raised by the Maidstone
District at a County Committee meeting. At that meeting the County Committee
felt that it may not be able to get
the support of 100 members to join, and
also that the outlay of £10 may put people off joining such a club.
Mal Williams brought the Idea again to the Maidstone District Committee
as one of many ideas of raising funds, and it was him that set about
presenting this way of raising funds for the BRF (Bell Restoration Fund).
Finally putting together a 120 club on the lines of other 100 clubs in the area.
A 120 Club he felt was more in line with Bell ringing, and
was so named.
Mal Williams became its first promoter and set up a database with
his son Darren's help.
Mal holds two sets of records on computer in case of
failure and a paper based system. One can be used as a manual record for those who may not have a
computer. The other, the database enables letters etc to be printed to
individual share holders / members.
When members buy a share in the Club, their numbers are
confirmed to them in writing, and can
also be confirmed to them by email.
At the end of the year members are invited to rejoin by
letter.
Mal has tried to make the Club look professional in every
way it is presented.
Winners are notified by post with their prize-winning
cheque and letter.
Even the stationary has the Club logo printed on it.
Winning numbers are posted on the 120 Club website by the
webmaster. "The Belfry", the Districts
quarterly journal also has a list of the winning numbers.
The rules of the 120 Club are printed on the application
form that all members’ (ringers or not) must sign, payment can be by cash or
cheque made payable to KCACR.
The promoter each year applies for a license to run such a
club.
COPIES OF STATIONARY available on request
The club has a new database and a new look website, written
by Darren.
